What are cookies and why do we use them?

A cookie is a file that is downloaded onto the user’s device when accessing certain web pages to store and retrieve information about the navigation performed from that equipment. Cookies allow such a website, among other things, to store and retrieve information about user decisions and habits. We use them to personalize the experience on our website, identify and remember registered users, and facilitate navigation. They never provide personal data. Users’ anonymity is guaranteed. Users who wish to can configure their browser to not accept the use of cookies, allowing access to our website but without a personalized experience. What cookies does the ROEX website use?

Our websites use session and persistent cookies. Session cookies expire when the user closes the browser, while persistent cookies expire depending on when they have been designed to fulfill their purpose or when the user proactively deletes them. Based on their objectives, we classify cookies into:

  • Performance cookies, used to remember options and, in general, improve the usability of our website.
  • IP location cookies, allowing us to offer content oriented by the user’s location.
  • Web analytics cookies, for statistical purposes, measuring variables such as time on page, number of visits, or page views.

Additionally, third-party cookies like Twitter, Facebook, or Disqus are used. Users have accepted these cookies at the time of signing up for each service and can also be manually deleted. Geolocation cookies: These cookies are used to determine the country when a website or service is requested. This cookie is completely anonymous and is only used to help tailor content to the user’s location. Registration cookies: Registration cookies are generated once the user has registered or subsequently logged in, and are used to identify the user on websites and services for the following purposes: Maintain user identification so that if they close a service or website and later return to that service or website on another day, they will still be identified, facilitating their navigation without having to re-identify themselves. This functionality can be suppressed if the user clicks the ‘Log Out’ feature, deleting this cookie. The next time the user enters the website, they will need to log in to be identified. Check if the user is authorized to access certain services, for example, to participate in a contest. Additionally, some services may use third-party connectors such as Facebook, Twitter, or Google. When the user registers for a service using credentials from a social network or third-party identification system, they authorize it to store a persistent cookie that remembers their identity and guarantees access to the website until it expires. The user can delete this cookie and revoke access to the website through social networks or third-party identification systems by updating their preferences on the specific social network.
